Almaty region. Originates in the Tien Shan Mountains and leads down to the lake Balkhash. 

It is the largest river in Semirechye, which is 1439 km long. There used to be caravans of the Great Silk Road, passing along the river banks. 

 

The right bank of file river is mostly clay, being high and steep in some places. The left bank, on the other side, is low and sandy. The Tamgaly-Tas tract, the rocks of which are preserved with petroglyphs and images of mysterious deities, is located 120-140 km from Almaty,
